Critical Lf 8 bug in repositories migrated from 6 or 7
The Laserfiche development team has identified a critical Lf 8 support issue involving repositories migrated from Lf 6 or 7. During the migration process, an internal property was not set correctly on Electronic Documents. This incorrect property can lead to the Lf 8 server losing track of Electronic Documents following a volume migration process. The physical electronic document files remain in their original volume location, but the Server is unable to locate them. This scenario only happens to electronic documents that were in the repository at the time of the lf6/lf7 to lf8 repository migration that have since been migrated to a different volume within the same repository.
We have posted a copy of the Laserfiche KB Article 1012156 with two SQL queries that ALL repositories migrated to Lf 8 from an earlier server version should run.

Laserfiche Plus 8.0.2 is now available.
This release includes English and Spanish versions for the Publisher and Viewer. The installation interface, however, has 5 languages to choose from.
You need to have Client 8.0.2 installed before installing Plus 8.0.2.

Laserfiche 8.0.2 is now available. This release includes a host of stability and performance fixes to the Server, Client and Search Engine, resulting in a more robust overall system. Functionality was also added to fully support the upcoming release of Plus 8.0.
Installing the Laserfiche 8.0.2 Server on the same computer as your existing 8.0.0 or 8.0.1 Server automatically updates both the installation and your repository. No separate repository update is necessary.

Rio, the New Laserfiche ECM Solution, Makes its Debut
On Friday, 8/8/08, Laserfiche announced Rio, their new ECM solution, to the general public.
When Laserfiche introduced their first version in the late 1980s, digital document management was a new concept for most organizations. Now, as technology has matured and the world has increasingly gone digital, few organizations can survive without it.
Organizations’ needs have also grown more complex over the years. In the past, they needed a system that would help their most paper-intensive departments archive and retrieve their documents. But now they need a solution that also helps them streamline business processes enterprise-wide.
The marketplace is clearly ready for an enterprise solution that’s easy on the budget and easy to purchase and install, and that’s why Laserfiche has spent the last few years developing Rio.
One of Rio’s strongest features in this regard is its licensing structure—you simply purchase a named license for each user in your organization. This license provides users with a full range of ECM functionality, including Workflow, Web Access, Advanced Audit Trail, Snapshot and the E-mail Plug-in. Laserfiche 8.0.1 is now available. Laserfiche 8.0.1 makes Laserfiche 8 more robust and complete.
This release also includes fixes to performance issues, and to the document viewer and metadata display. Many of these updates were in response to support calls and forum postings. Also, new functionality was added to the Laserfiche Server to support upcoming releases.
Installing the Laserfiche 8.0.1 Server on the same computer as your existing 8.0.0 Server automatically updates both the installation and your repository. No separate repository update is necessary.
Laserfiche 8.0.1 also includes the following enhancements:
- 64-bit server support.
- Standalone Edition support, which includes Executive 8.0.1, Desktop 8.0.1 and Notebook 8.0.1.
- Cross-repository copy and paste, so users can copy and paste folders and documents across two repositories in the Laserfiche Client.
- Language pack support for all products, for simpler installation and support of localized versions. Please note that localized versions are not yet available with this release.
- Migration Utility support for direct migration from Version 6 repositories to Version 8.
- Migration Utility support for migrating Version 7 audit data to Version 8 format.
- Updated search and user interface.

Laserfiche 8.0- The next generation of the Laserfiche
Server represents a major architectural update which will enhance overall performance for
all members of the Laserfiche Product Suite. Laserfiche 8.0 features enhanced scalability,
robustness, full Unicode Support and increased collaboration tools, as well as a powerful new
search and indexing framework. Overall usability has been improved by including new features
such as: enhanced template functionality including the introduction of decimal and multi-value
fields, freehand annotations, new search and navagation toolbars, and a fully integrated
recycle bin. Administration tasks are simplified by adding greater direct interaction with
Active Directory and providing more granular control over documents and metadata through rich
security features and auditing. The new HTTP/WebDAV protocol will make working across
firewalls much easier. We have expanded on our comprehnsive API to take advantage of new 8.0
functionality, including realtime notifications to help streamline document availablity and
processing.
Workflow 8.0- This business process management tool from Laserfiche, built
on the Microsoft Workflow engine found in the .NET Framework 3.0, is a scalable,
flexible, easy to use product. Business process improvements come easy with the new
visual Workflow Designer and Workflow activities that can reach enterprisewide. Managing
workflow definitions is straightforward with the new Workflow Designer, which allows
customers to track their workflow and even print out a map of the whole process. Users
will be able to easily customize their workflows using a variety of activities such as
putting a document in Laserfiche, changing an template field, or copying a file to the
Windows file system. Further, users will able to create their own custom activities,
opening up a new horizon of possibilities for helping organizations to run smarter.
Workflows created using this software will be portable across Laserfiche servers and
repositories.
